Handbrake System
Handbrake systemWhen the hand brake lever is pulled up, the force is transferred via the cable equalizer (right illustration) and two cables to the actuating levers (2) on the hand brake unit located inside the rear wheel brake drums.
The actuating levers (2) press the brake shoes (1) against the brake drums so that braking is achieved.
To compensate for brake lining and brake drum wear, an adjusting unit (3) is provided which is accessible from the outside through a hole in the brake drum.
When the hand brake is applied, the hand brake lever switch closes a circuit to ground and the hand brake warning lamp in the main instrument display panel lights up. When the hand brake lever is released, the return spring acts on the actuating lever and the brake shoes return to the rest (brakes off) position.
