Oil Cooler: Service and Repair
Engine oil cooler, 4-cyl.To remove
1. Raise the car.
2. Remove the lower front cover.
3. Remove the engine oil cooler's screws.
4. Undo the nut that connects the hoses to the engine oil cooler.
5. Carefully divide the connection.
Important
Use a screwdriver when separating the connection. This could involve damage to the O-ring and seat.
Note
There is an O-ring at each connection.
Keep a receptacle available to collect oil from the engine oil cooler/hoses.
6. Plug the hoses.
7. Lift down the engine oil cooler.
To fit
Note
Check the roundness of the O-rings and replace as necessary.
1. Fit the O-rings, coat them with Gleitmo 805, part no. 30 06 442.
2. Fitting the engine oil cooler takes place in reverse order. Fill the engine oil cooler with the recommended engine oil.
Tightening torques:
Oil pipe, engine oil cooler, nut, up to and including Vehicle Identification Number 73514907:
10 Nm (7.4 lbf ft)
Oil pipe, engine oil cooler, nut, from and including Vehicle Identification Number 73514908:
8 Nm (5.9 lbf ft)
Charge air cooler engine oil cooler 8 Nm (5.9 lbf ft)
3. When the engine oil cooler has been fitted, start the engine and check for any oil leakage.
4. Switch off the engine and check the oil level after about 5 minutes.
