Work In The Car On The Airbag System

Welding
Disconnect the negative battery cable and cover it before welding.

Painting
The weld studs in the airbag control module attachment bracket and the ground connections must be masked while painting to safeguard the control module ground.

Electrical work
Electrical cables in the airbag system must not be spliced. Splicing could cause functional disruptions in the system that could lead to personal injury or the system being damaged to such an extent that it is no longer functional.

Body work
The ignition must be in the OFF position while working on the body when it is exposed to blows and jolts.

Working on the steering gear
During all work when the contact roller is fitted and the steering column is not connected with the steering gear, the steering wheel must be locked to avoid changing the basic settings of the contact roller.

WARNING: If the basic settings of the contact roller are changed then the spiral shaped wire in the contact roller is destroyed when the steering wheel is turned to full lock. The airbag is then disengaged with the risk of personal injury in the event of an accident.

Scrapping and recycling
To avoid injury when scrapping cars equipped with airbags and seatbelt tensioners, all undetonated airbags and seatbelt tensioners must be rendered unserviceable by electric detonation in accordance with the description before the car is scrapped.

These safety measures are essential, as the pyrotechnical units can cause serious injury and material damage if handled unprofessionally.

In connection with the accident-repair of cars
When repairing cars damaged in accidents it is important that the correct components are checked and replaced to avoid uncertainty over the car's reliability after repair.
