Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Apply the park brake lever.
2. Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement (Service and Repair).

Note: The brake pedal pivot bolt must be replaced each time it is removed.

3. Remove the brake pedal pivot bolt and nut.
Discard the brake pedal pivot bolt.
4. Remove the brake pedal.
5. Inspect the brake pedal pivot bushing for damage or wear.

Installation Procedure




1. If replacing a worn or damaged brake pedal pivot bushing, install a new bushing as follows:

1. Compress the end of the bushing which will be facing the brake pedal pivot nut.
2. Install the bushing into the pivot hub far enough to hold the bushing in place.
3. Press the bushing through the hub until the bushing is fully engaged.

2. Install the brake pedal.
3. Install the brake pedal pivot bolt and nut.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. While holding the brake pedal pivot bolt stationary, tighten the nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement (Service and Repair).
