Parking Brake Shoe Inspection




Parking Brake Shoe Inspection
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning (Brake Dust Warning).





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the rear brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement).




4. Remove the rear brake rotor.
5. Inspect the park brake shoe and lining and replace if any of the following conditions are found:

* Excessive wear indicated by the park brake lining being worn down to the shoe
* Brake lining cracking
* Oil or fluid contamination of the brake lining

6. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (Adjustments).
7. Install the rear brake rotor.




8. Install the rear brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement).
9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
