Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid1. Run the engine until the power steering fluid reaches about 80° C (170° F).
2. Turn OFF the engine.
3. If equipped with the LF1 engine, remove the intake manifold cover.
4. Clean the power steering fluid reservoir and the reservoir cap.
5. Remove the reservoir cap.
6. Note
Inspect the power steering pump fluid level at regular intervals.
Inspect the power steering fluid level on the cap stick. Ensure that the fluid level is at the MAX mark on the cap stick.
7. Warning
When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.
Note
If the power steering fluid color is red or pink, use GM DEXRON(R)-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid. If the power steering fluid color is amber or brown, use GM Power Steering Fluid.
Add the proper fluid to the reservoir, if necessary.
8. Install the reservoir cap.
9. If equipped with the LF1 engine, install the intake manifold cover.
