Secondary Timing Chain Tensioner Installation - Right Side

Secondary Timing Chain Tensioner Installation - Right Side

Special Tools

- EN 46112 Tensioner Retraction Pins
- EN 45027 Reset Tool
- EN 48383 Camshaft Retaining Tools

1. Ensure that the secondary timing chain tensioner bank 1 (1) is being installed.

2. Using the EN 45027 reset tool, reset the secondary timing chain tensioner plunger.

3. Install the plunger into the secondary timing chain tensioner body.

4. Compress the plunger into the body and lock the secondary timing chain tensioner by inserting the EN 46112pin into the access hole in the side of the secondary timing chain tensioner body.

5. Slowly release pressure on the secondary timing chain tensioner. The secondary timing chain tensioner should remain compressed.
6. Install a NEW secondary timing chain tensioner gasket (2) to the secondary timing chain tensioner (1).

7. Install the secondary timing chain tensioner bolts (3) through the secondary timing chain tensioner and gasket.
8. Ensure the secondary timing chain tensioner mounting surface on the cylinder head bank 1 does not have any burrs or defects that would degrade the sealing of the NEW secondary timing chain tensioner gasket.
9. Place the secondary timing chain tensioner into position and loosely install the bolts to the block.
10. Verify the proper placement of the secondary timing chain tensioner gasket tab (1).

11. Refer to Fastener Caution.
Tighten the 2 secondary timing chain tensioner bolts a first pass in sequence to 5 Nm (44 lb in).
12. Tighten the 2 secondary timing chain tensioner bolts a second pass in sequence to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).
13. Release the secondary timing chain tensioner by pulling out the EN 46112 pin and unlocking the tensioner plunger.

14. Note
Ensure that all timing chain tensioners are completely released. A timing chain tensioner that is not properly released can lead to serious engine damage.

Verify all primary and secondary timing chain timing mark alignments (1-18).

15. Remove the EN 48383 retainer camshaft tools from both sets of camshafts.
