Brake Light Switch: Description and Operation

STOP LAMP SWITCH

Stop Lamp Switch:

The stop lamp switch is located under the driver side I/P touching the brake pedal arm. The stop lamp switch is located below the cruise brake switch on the brake switch support bracket. The stop lamp switch is used to turn On the stop lamps and to serve as an input to the ECM and TCM (over the Controller Area Network (CAN) link from the ECM to the TCM). The stop lamp switch is normally closed with the switch removed from the vehicle (brake pedal depressed). Battery voltage is supplied to the ECM and stop lamps through the stop lamp switch whenever the brake pedal is depressed. When the pedal is released, the ECM input goes low and the stop lamps turn Off.
