Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair

STOP LAMP SWITCH

REMOVAL




1. Disconnect stop lamp switch electrical connectors.
2. Rotate stop lamp switch counterclockwise and remove stop lamp switch from stop lamp switch retainer.

IMPORTANT: Depressing brake pedal will allow easier access of stop lamp retainer locking tabs.




3. Gently compress locking tabs on stop lamp switch retainer and remove stop lamp switch retainer from brake pedal assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. Install stop lamp switch retainer into lower brake pedal assembly hole with retainer arrow pointing in the 12 o'clock position.

IMPORTANT:
^ Do not depress brake pedal assembly during stop lamp switch installation. Depressing brake pedal will cause a brake drag condition.
^ Inspect retainer to insure that locking tabs locked into position and retainer is in place.




2. Install stop lamp switch.
2.1 Position switch into retainer with electrical connectors pointing to the 1 o'clock position.
2.2 Slide switch in retainer until plunger is fully depressed into barrel.
2.3 Rotate switch clockwise until travel stop has been reached (approximately 600).
2.4 Inspect stop lamp switch to insure switch is properly locked into stop lamp switch retainer with stop lamp switch electrical connectors pointing to the 3 o'clock position.




3. Connect stop lamp switch electrical connectors.
4. Inspect stop lamps for proper operation.
