2. Rotational Torque Measurement Procedure
ROTATIONAL TORQUE MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 45053 Universal Clamp Press
- J 45165 Differential Torque Cross Bar
1. Reinstall front differential assembly (13) into the empty case.
2. Install M8 X 1.25 X 30mm non-coated bolts (1) and hand tighten.
3. Install M8 X 1.25 X 30mm bolts (2) and hand tighten.
4. Reinstall torque converter housing assembly to case assembly.
5. Install bolts and hand tighten.
6. Tighten torque converter housing bolts in sequence shown.
Torque: Torque Converter Housing Bolts: 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.)
IMPORTANT: When installing J45053, make sure top edge of differential output spline is slightly below tip of brass inserts.
7. Install adjustable jaw portion of Universal Clamp Press J45053 onto exposed splined area of differential assembly and lightly tighten mounting bolts.
8. Install Differential Torque Cross Bar J45165 onto Universal Clamp Press J45053.
9. Using a 5/8" socket and torque wrench, measure rotational torque to slowly rotate front differential and note the readings.
Torque: Rotational Torque Specification: 0.70 - 1.20 Nm (6 - 11 inch lbs.)
10. Compare this measurement with the specification list in the specification table. If the obtained measurement is within specifications, the differential shim replacement is not necessary.
If obtained measurement is not within the listed specifications, the front differential bearing race shim must be replaced.
11. Remove Differential Torque Cross Bar J45165 and Universal Clamp Press J45053 from the front differential assembly.
12. Remove torque converter housing assembly and front differential assembly from the transaxle case.
