Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints: Description and Operation
POWERTRAIN MOUNTSThe Saturn powertrain mounting system is called a torque axis mount system (TAMS). It features four mounts: left & right torque axis, or load bearing mounts, and front & rear torque reaction mounts. The right hand (engine) mount is a hydraulic design, while the left hand (transmission) is a conventional design.
Both the left & right hand mounts are load bearing mounts, and require that the powertrain be supported prior to mount removal. Damage may occur to other mounts if the powertrain is not supported After the mounts are reinstalled, an engine mount balance may need to be performed, to neutralize mount pre-loads from installation. Mount pre-load may cause driveability/vibration concerns, and may damage the mounts.
