P0717

Diagnostic Chart:

Schematic:

The input speed sensor (ISS) provides transaxle input speed to the TCM. The ISS is a permanent magnet (PM) generator. The sensor is located near the turbine shaft of the transmission and produces an AC voltage that increases in frequency and amplitude as the turbine shaft increases in speed. The frequency produced is directly proportional to the input speed. The TCM then converts this frequency signal into input speed. If a low input speed signal is detected and there is vehicle speed, then DTC P0717 sets.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0717 will set if the Transmission ISS is less than 100 rpm for more than 5 seconds when:
^ Ignition Voltage is between 8 and 18 volts.
^ Engine Speed is between 550 and 6000 rpm for at least 5 seconds.
^ TR Sw. is equal to Drive and not equal to Park or Neutral.
^ DTC P0705, DTC P0722, P0723, P1756, P1758, and P1779 have not set.
^ Transmission OSS is at least 400 rpm.
^ Engine Torque signal is valid.
^ Engine Torque is between 30 and 300 N.m (22 and 221 ft-lbs)

DTC P0717 diagnostic runs continuously when the above condition have been met.

DTC P0717 is a type A DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
To locate an intermittent problem, use a Scan tool to monitor TRANSMISSION ISS with the engine running. Wiggling wires while watching for a change in the TRANSMISSION ISS parameter may locate the area where a fault in the wiring may lie. Also, note that the transmission speed sensors have harnesses internal to the transaxle and may be the source of the problem.

Check connection for tightness.

ISS Resistance at 25°C (77°F): 1000-2000 ohm.
