Outer Tie Rod Removal

^ J44015 Tie Rod Installer
^ SA91100C Tie Rod Separator


OUTER TIE ROD REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE OPPOSITE FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.





1. Hoist vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire.

IMPORTANT: Mark location of jam nut for re-installation.

3. Loosen tie rod inner jam nut.

NOTICE: Hold ball stud from turning while removing nut. The boot can be damaged if the ball stud rotates. Discard used nut.





4. Remove tie rod to knuckle nut.

NOTICE: Do not use wedge A type tool to separate joint. Damage may occur to seal.





5. Separate rod from knuckle using Tie Rod Separator SA91100C (or equivalent).





6. Unthread outer tie rod to remove.
