File in Section: 06 - Engine/Propulsion SystemBulletin No.: 03-06-02-001
Issue Date: March, 2003
Subject:
Design Change to Water Pump Used on L61 Engine
Models Affected:
2003 Saturn ION and VUE vehicles with 2.2L, 4 cylinder engine
(VIN F and D - RPO L61) built in Spring Hill after 1/24/03
Attention:
General Manager, Fixed Operations Manager, Technician
Purpose
Spring Hill-built L61 engines are produced with a water pump containing a drain plug that is in a horizontal orientation. The drain plug contains an 0-ring that opens a downward facing drain port. To minimize potential for leaks due to 0-ring concerns (reference TSB 02-T-83), the drain port has been cast shut. This change applies to all ION and VUE L61 engines produced after January 24, 2003. As current service parts inventory is used up, these revised pumps will become the only service part available for service of all L61 engines.
Important:
Saturn L-Series vehicles will utilize the new water pump design for service only.
