4. Fluid Pump Assemble
FLUID PUMP ASSEMBLE^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 36850 Assembly Lubricant
- J 45112-1 Pump Drive Shaft Retaining Ring Sizer/Installer and Sizing Rod
1. Inspect pump housing for damage. Ensure that the inside of housing is free of any debris.
2. Install a new outer O-ring seal into the pump housing seal groove.
NOTICE: Avoid twisting the square-cut seal during installation. Also ensure the seal is positioned so that it does not interfere with the rectangular-shaped discharge port on the side of the pump housing.
3. Install a new outer white square-cut seal onto the pump housing. Push the seal flush against housing shoulder.
IMPORTANT: Using Assembly Lubricant J36850, lubricate pump drive shaft seal for ease of installation.
4. Using Pump Drive Shaft Seal Installer J45198, install new pump drive shaft seal into pump housing.
IMPORTANT: The inner pump O-ring seal fits into the second ID groove from the pump end. The first ID groove from the pump end is for the end cover retaining ring.
5. Install a new inner O-ring seal into the pump housing seal groove.
6. Apply the Assembly Lubricant J36850 to the ID of the O-ring seal.
7. Install two cam ring dowel pins into locating holes in pump housing.
IMPORTANT: The pump rotor vanes are symmetrical and may be assembled in any orientation.
8. Inspect thrust plate, pump rotor and pump rotor vanes for damage.
9. Install thrust plate and rotor (with vanes) on drive shaft.
NOTICE: Use care when mounting drive shaft in vise. Nicks or score marks on drive shaft could cause the pump to become inoperable.
10. Mount drive shaft and rotor in a vise.
11. Using the Pump Drive Shaft Retaining Ring Sizer/Installer J45112-2 (1), size a new drive shaft retaining ring on the Pump Drive Shaft Retaining Ring Sizer/Installer and Sizing Rod J45112-1 (2).
NOTICE: Ensure the drive shaft retaining ring is uniformly installed on the drive shaft. A crooked or improperly installed retaining ring could cause pump become inoperable.
12. Using the pump drive shaft retaining ring sizer/installer J45112-2 (1) and pump drive shaft retaining ring sizing rod J45112-1 (2), install drive shaft retaining ring into groove on drive shaft.
IMPORTANT: If an acceptable measurement is not obtained, install a new retaining ring.
13. Measure the OD of the installed retaining ring. The measurement should be 12.54 mm (0.49 inch) or less.
14. Insert drive shaft, thrust plate and rotor as a unit into pump housing. Align the two holes in thrust plate with pump cam dowel pins.
IMPORTANT: It is normal to have to overcome some resistance caused by the lip seal on sprocket end of shaft.
15. Push down on shaft until thrust plate and rotor are fully positioned in pump housing.
16. Install cam ring into pump housing, aligning the cam ring through-holes on dowel pins. Ensure that cam ring inlet notches are aligned with thrust plate scallops.
17. Install a new O-ring seal into pump end cover groove.
18. Apply the assembly lubricant J36850 to the ID of O-ring seal.
19. Center the pressure plate (flat side down) on a flat block under an arbor press.
IMPORTANT: The pressure plate spring must be positioned in the pressure plate so the free ends (2) are up and the higher areas (1), (3) of spring are located above the through-hole ports (4), (5) in pressure plate.
20. Position pressure plate spring into groove on top of pressure plate.
IMPORTANT: The end cover must be pressed square to the pressure plate in order to avoid cutting O-ring seal.
21. Using the arbor press, press end cover on pressure plate until O-ring seal is fully engaged onto pressure plate outside diameter.
22. Inspect for any signs of a cut O-ring seal. If required, repeat assembly with a new O-ring seal.
23. To aid in assembly of end cover, use a permanent marker and mark pump housing adjacent to cam ring dowel pins.
24. Mark end cover adjacent to dowel pin holes located in pressure plate.
25. Position end cover and pressure plate assembly in pump housing, aligning through-holes in pressure plate with dowel pins.
26. Verify correct orientation of end cover into pump housing using marks (1) made in steps 22 and 23.
NOTICE: Do not position pump assembly on inlet face. Damage to inlet face may cause pump assembly to become inoperative.
27. Position pump assembly on an arbor press so that the pump drive shaft end is facedown and pump assembly is resting on its outer diameter rim face.
28. Position end cover retaining ring onto end of pump.
29. Center arbor press over pump end cover.
30. Using the arbor press, apply a light load to pump end cover in order to install the end cover retaining ring.
NOTICE: Use care when installing end cover retaining ring. Damage to pump housing groove may cause pump to become inoperable.
IMPORTANT: When installing end cover retaining ring, locate the open end of retaining ring opposite of retaining ring access hole in pump housing.
31. Using a small screwdriver, install end cover retaining ring into pump housing groove.
32. Release the arbor press load from pump end cover.
33. Rotate drive shaft by hand in order to ensure the pump rotates freely.
IMPORTANT: If an acceptable measurement is not obtained, install a new retaining ring.
34. Measure the inside diameter of the installed end cover retaining ring in three places: at approximately 6 mm (0.24 inch) from each end of the retaining ring, and at 900 from the retaining ring end gap. The measurement for each should be 60.74 mm (2.39 inch) or more.
35. Install pressure relief valve assembly into pump housing.
36. Tighten pressure relief valve assembly.
