Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROPSHAFT GUARD

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON THE HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE OPPOSITE FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.

1. Raise vehicle.





2. Remove propshaft center bearing bolts.

IMPORTANT: Index mark prop flange to rear axle flange for reassembly.





3. Remove propshaft rear flange bolts.
4. Apply forward pressure on the propshaft to disengage propshaft rear flange. Support propshaft.
5. Remove propshaft guard to rear drive module bolts.





6. Remove guard.

INSTALLATION





1. Position guard to rear drive module, hand start all bolts and tighten.
Torque:
Propshaft Guard-to-Rear Drive Module Bolts: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)





2. Position propshaft to RDM, align center bearing support to underbody and hand tighten bolts.

NOTICE: Use Permatex Threadlocker - Blue on bolt threads.

IMPORTANT: Align index mark.





3. Align propshaft rear flange to rear drive module, install bolts and tighten.
Torque:
Propshaft Rear Flange-to-Rear Drive Module Bolts: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
4. Tighten center bearing bolts.
Torque:
Center Bearing Bolts: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
5. Lower vehicle.
