Shift Linkage: Service and Repair

SHIFTER ASSEMBLY (ON-VEHICLE) REMOVAL

^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 36346 Fascia Retainer Remover





1. Disconnect shift cable ends from transaxle by prying on both sides with even pressure using Fascia Retainer Remover J36346 (or equivalent).
2. Disconnect shift cables from shift cable bracket.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.

3. Position vehicle on hoist and raise vehicle.
4. Remove wheel.
5. Remove left inner splash shield.





6. Shift transaxle in neutral.
7. Remove shifter guide bolt.





8. Remove shifter retaining bolts.
9. Remove shifter.

INSTALLATION





IMPORTANT: Apply a thin bead of sealer and ensure that there is not any excessive sealer around the shift rod bushing.

1. Apply sealer (P/N 12378516) to transaxle case to shifter cover mating surface.





IMPORTANT: Install all possible shifter bolts with shifter in neutral position. Install last shifter bolt in gear and shift transaxle back into neutral.

2. Install shifter and shifter retaining bolts.
Torque: Shifter Retaining Bolts: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)





3. Shift transaxle into neutral.
4. Apply P/N 21485278 to shifter guide bolt.

NOTICE: Hand-start and tighten shifter guide bolt to avoid damaging shift lever.

5. Install shifter guide bolt.
Torque: Shifter Guide Bolt: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
6. Install left inner splash shield.
7. Install wheel nuts and tighten in a crisscross pattern.
Torque: Wheel Nuts: 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)





8. Connect shift cables to shift cable bracket.
9. Connect shift cable ends to transaxle.
10. Lower vehicle.
