STATIONARY GLASS

3. Remove right side air inlet grille fasteners and remove right side air inlet grille panel.
4. Remove left side air inlet grille fasteners and place left side air inlet panel underhood.

5. Remove A-pillar interior trim panels.

6. Remove inside rear view mirror.
7. If the vehicle is equipped with the Onstar mirror, it may be necessary to lower the front edge of the headliner.

CAUTION: IF BROKEN GLASS FALLS INTO DEFROSTER OUTLETS, IT CAN BE BLOWN INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND CAUSE INJURIES. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY, COVER THE DEFROSTER OUTLETS BEFORE REPLACING WINDOWS.

8. Apply two 152 mm (6 in.) pieces of duct tape to the top and bottom of glass to prevent it from falling out when the urethane adhesive is cut.

CAUTION: WHEN USING POWER TOOLS THAT MAY CREATE SMOKE WHEN CUTTING URETHANE SEALANT, WORK SHOULD BE DONE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND/OR WITH A NIOSH/MSHA APPROVED AIR SUPPLIED RESPIRATOR TO PREVENT POSSIBLE HARMFUL EXPOSURE.

WHEN THE URETHANE ADHESIVE IS HEATED ENOUGH TO GIVE OFF SMOKE, HIGH LEVELS OF METHYLENE DIISOCYANATE (MDI) MAY BE PRESENT.

UNPROTECTED EXPOSURE TO METHYLENE DIISOCYANATE (MDI) MAY RESULT IN SEVERE, CHRONIC, DEBILITATING RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS.

9. Using piano wire and handles cut urethane from all sides of the windshield from outside of the vehicle. A soapy water solution may be sprayed along the urethane bead to ease the cutting process.

10. With the aid of a helper, remove windshield.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:
- To avoid scratching the windshield or blackout on windshield outer edge, care must be taken when removing urethane with razor blade.
- Loose material and/or a rough surface on remaining urethane may cause sealing problems during installation.

1. Remove old urethane with a new razor knife leaving a thin film (approximately 1-2 mm [0.04-0.08 in.]) around the perimeter of windshield opening. Any gaps in urethane film must be primed using glass prep primer (Clean #1) and glass primer (Black #2).
2. Clean the entire windshield opening and glass bonding surfaces with a clean lint-free, alcohol-dampened cloth. Allow to air dry.
3. Dry-fit either the new windshield or the existing windshield to the glass opening surface.
3.1 ATign the top edge of the windshield with the front edge of the roof panel.
3.2 Align the fingers extending from the top corners of the windshield along the sides of the roof panel.
3.3 Place strips of masking tape across the Lop and bottom edges of windshield onto the vehicle. Draw a straight line on the masking tape where the tape covers the gap between the windshield and the vehicle. Cut the tape across the newly drawn line. The masking tape will be used to help align the windshield to the vehicle during installation.

NOTE:
- To prevent corrosion, paint damage around the window opening by the glass removal tool must be covered with pinch weld primer. Do not prime over existing urethane. Follow manufacturer's recommendation for drying time.
- To avoid scratching the windshield or blackout on windshield outer edge, care must be taken when removing urethane with razor blade.
- Loose material and/or a rough surface on remaining urethane may cause sealing problems during installation.

4. Preparation for window installation:

- If the existing windshield will be used:
a. Remove old urethane with a new razor knife leaving a thin film (approximately 1-2 mm [0.04-0.08 in.]) around the perimeter of windshield.
b. Clean the entire windshield opening and glass bonding surfaces with a clean lint-free, alcohol-dampened cloth. Allow to air dry.

- If a new windshield will be used:
a. Shake glass prep timer (Clear #1) or equivalent well before applying. Apply glass prep primer (Clear #1) or equivalent around the entire perimeter of the windshield using a dauber.
b. Wipe area dry with a clean lint-free cloth.

5. Prime windshield.
5.1 Shake glass primer (Black #2) or equivalent well before applying.
5.2 With a new dauber, apply glass primer (Black #2) or equivalent to the entire perimeter over glass prep primer (Clear #1) or equivalent.
5.3 Allow glass primer to dry 5 minutes before applying urethane.

NOTE: Until the urethane has cured, air pressure from a closing door may cause the windshield to move. To prevent this, lower one of the rear door windows a minimum of 76 mm (3 in.) before closing the door.

6. Apply a smooth and continuous bead of adhesive directly to old urethane or to primered surface of glass. Start bead at the bottom of the windshield to prevent leaks. Apply according to the following dimensions shown in the illustration.

Bead Dimension

1. (Minimum Height): 14 mm (0.55 in.)
2. (Minimum Width): 10 mm (0.39 in.)

IMPORTANT: The windshield must be installed starting at the bottom edge near the hood.

7. With the aid of a helper, lift the windshield into window opening. Using the hood hinge covers as a guide, move the windshield into position underneath the hood hinges. Take note of the position of the masking tape alignment strips. Set the windshield into position starting with the bottom edge first making sure that the masking tape strips are in proper alignment.
8. Press glass firmly to wet-out and set adhesive. Use care to avoid excessive squeeze out which would cause an appearance problem.

Bead Dimension
1. (Desired Wet-Out Height): 6 mm (0.24 in.)

9. Apply tape to hold windshield in position until urethane adhesive is cured.
10. Water test the vehicle at once using a soft spray. Use warm or hot water if available. Do not direct a hard stream of water on fresh adhesive material. Water applied on top of urethane adhesive, either during water teat or part of a separate operation, will speed up the cure of the urethane.
11. Inspect for leaks from inside the vehicle. Paddle in extra adhesive at leak points using a tongue depressor or similar flat flexible tool.

12. Install inside rear view rninror.

13. Install A-pillar interior trim panels.

14. Install air inlet grille panels.

15. On driver's side, position wiper blade assembly at tick-mark in the lower portion of the windshield blackout strip.
16. On passenger's side, position wiper blade assembly at tick-mark in the A-pillar portion of the windshield blackout strip.
17. Install wiper arm nut and tighten.
