C0051

C0051-RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE

DTC C0051

RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE

The wheel speed sensor produces an AC voltage whose amplitude and frequency vary, depending on the velocity of the wheel. The Electronic Brake And Traction Control Module (EBTCM) uses this voltage signal to calculate wheel speed.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC C0051 will set if the following conditions exist:
^ Right rear wheel speed is less than 2.75 km/h (1.7 mph) while vehicle speed is above 40 km/h (25 mph).
^ Brake pedal is not pressed.
^ DTC C0050 is not set.

When DTC C0051 sets:
^ The ABS telltale will be On.
^ The TCS LED will be Off.
^ The control module will disable ABS and TCS for the entire ignition cycle.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
Possible causes for DTC ('0051 to set:
^ Wheel speed sensor or circuit intermittently open or shorted.
^ No air gap (pole strike).
^ Loose sensor.
^ Damaged tooth or teeth on speed ring.
^ Electrical noise induced on wheel speed circuit.
^ Large grooves, gouges or foreign material in speed ring.
^ Excessive sensor air gap.
^ Low sensor output.
^ Worn Suspension or driveline components.
^ Brake switch always Off (open).
^ Worn hub bearings or inner axle hearing

When diagnosing intermittent conditions, use the Scan toot to observe parameters while test driving or wiggling a wire harness. Compare parameters with those on a known good system.
