Front Seat Adjuster Replacement (4-Way)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
2. Adjust the seat cushion to the highest position.
3. Remove the seat cushion side trim. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement.
4. Remove the seat belt wire harness clip from the adjuster.
5. On vehicles with heated seats, disconnect the electrical connector from the seat heater module.
6. If the seat is equipped with a lumbar support, perform the following procedure:
6.1 Adjust the lumbar knob until the lumbar is in the setting of the least support.
6.2 Pull the lumbar cable sleeve back.
6.3 Remove the barrel cable end from the lumbar actuator.
7. Remove the bolt from the seat belt buckle. Remove the buckle.
8. Remove the lower J-hook retainer from the seat back trim cover.
9. Lift the trim cover enough to expose the springs on the seat back frame.
Caution: The seat back frame springs are under tension. To avoid personal injury, use care when removing or installing the frame.
10. Adjust the rear seat back until the spring hook ends are adjacent to the notches in the seat back frame.
11. Using a pair of channel lock pliers, slide the hook end of the spring into the notches is the frame.
12. Adjust the seat back forward to ensure that the springs are fully seated in the notches.
13. Remove the bolt and the spring from the recliner handle.
14. Remove the recliner handle.
15. Remove the nuts from the outboard seat back frame.
16. If equipped, remove the teardrop washer and bolt.
17. Remove the nuts from the inboard seat back frame.
Important: To provide more clearance when removing the seat back frame you may loosen, but do NOT remove, the bolts from the rear seat cushion frame.
18. Remove the seat back frame, the pad, and the cover assembly from the seat.
19. Remove the seat adjuster handle by squeezing both sides of the handle toward the center of the seat.
20. Remove the seat cushion frame bolts.
21. Remove the seat cushion assembly from between the adjusters.
22. Remove the seat riser bar.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the seat riser bar.
2. Position the seat cushion frame assembly between the adjusters.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
3. Install the seat cushion frame bolts. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb ft).
4. Position the seat back frame assembly between the adjusters. Ensure that the locating triangles in the frame are properly seated in the mating holes in the adjusters.
5. If equipped, install the outboard teardrop washer and bolt. Tighten the bolt to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).
6. Install the outboard seat back frame nuts. Tighten the nuts to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).
7. Install the inboard seat back frame nuts. Tighten the nuts to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).
8. If you loosened the rear bolts on the seat cushion frame during removal, tighten them now. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb ft).
Caution: The seat back frame springs are under tension. To avoid personal injury, use care when removing or installing the frame.
9. Install the seat recliner handle and spring. Install the recliner handle bolt. Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
10. Adjust the seat back until the hook ends of the springs are adjacent to the adjuster pins.
11. Using a pair of channel lock pliers, slide the springs from the notches in the frame to the pin.
12. Adjust the seat back to ensure proper movement.
13. If the seat is equipped with a lumbar support, perform the following procedure:
13.1 Pull the lumbar cable sleeve forward.
13.2 Insert the barrel cable end to the lumbar actuator.
13.3 Adjust the lumbar knob to ensure that the lumbar is operating correctly.
14. Lower the seat back trim cover.
15. Connect the lower J-hook retainer to the trim cover.
16. On heated seats, connect the electrical connector to the seat heater.
17. Install the seat cushion outer trim panel. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement.
18. Install the seat belt buckle. Secure the buckle with the seat belt bolt. Tighten the bolt to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
19. Connect the seat belt warning wire to the seat adjuster.
20. Install the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
