Timing Belt Cover Replacement - Front

FRONT TIMING BELT COVER REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.

NOTICE: Engine must be supported when right hand engine mount is removed. If floor jack is being used, vehicle should not be lifted on a hoist.

NOTICE: If raising vehicle on a hoist, the Three Bar Engine Support must be used.

3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove right front wheel.
5. Remove splash shield push pins.
6. Remove splash shield.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Install Three Bar Engine Support Fixture to 6 Cylinder (L81) B.





9. Loosen water pump and idler pulley bolts. The accessory drive belt tension provides resistance to enable loosening of bolts. Do not remove fastening bolt at this time.





10. Remove accessory drive belt using a 15 mm wrench to compress tensioner.





NOTICE: Removal of accessory drive belt requires removal of right front engine mount.

11. Remove right engine mount to body mount.





12. Remove engine mount bracket from engine.
13. Remove water pump pulley bolts.
14. Remove water pump pulley.





15. Remove idler pulley bolt.
16. Remove idler pulley.





17. Disconnect electrical harness connectors located at engine harness channel.
18. Disconnect electrical harness channel from front cover and position away from front cover assembly.





19. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner bolts.
20. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner.





NOTICE: Disconnecting the A/C pressure connector will allow additional slack so that harness may be secured to top of engine.

NOTICE: Engine harness channel has been disconnected and positioned away from front cover assembly.

21. Remove front timing belt cover bolts.
22. Remove front timing belt cover.
23. Inspect sealing strip on outer edge of front timing belt cover for cracks and/or tears. Replace if necessary.

INSTALLATION

1. Install front timing belt cover.
2. Install front timing belt cover bolts.

Tighten
Front Timing Belt Cover Bolt: 8 N.m (71 lb in)





3. Install accessory drive belt tensioner.
4. Install accessory drive belt tensioner bolts.

Tighten
Belt Tensioner Bolts: 40 N.m (30 lb ft)





5. Install drive belt idler pulley.





6. Install drive belt idler pulley bolt.
7. Snug power idler pulley bolt. The bolts will be tightened to proper specification when serpentine drive belt is installed.
8. Install water pump pulley.
9. Install water pump pulley bolts. Snug the water pump pulley bolts. The bolts volt be tightened to proper specification when the accessory drive belt is installed.





10. Route electrical harness into engine harness channel and engage connectors.
11. Install wiring harness channel to front cover.





NOTICE: Be sure to properly route electrical harness to prevent harness damage caused by accessory drive belt.

12. Attach wiring harness channel extension to right lower side of wiring harness channel.





13. Install accessory drive belt.





14. Tighten water pump pulley bolts.

Tighten
Water Pump Pulley Bolt: 8 N.m (71 lb in)

15. Tighten drive belt idler pulley bolts.

Tighten
Idler Pulley Bolt: 20 N.m (15 lb in)





16. Install engine mount bracket and tighten fasteners.

Tighten
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt: 55 N.m (41 lb ft)





17. Install engine mount to frame rail and engine mount bracket.

Tighten
Engine Mount-to-Bracket Bolt: 55 N.m (41 lb ft)

18. Remove Three Bar Engine Support Fixture.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL, SUPPORT FOR THE OPPOSITE AND FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED. MAKE SURE HOIST DOES NOT CONTACT FUEL OR BRAKE LINES.

19. Raise vehicle.





20. Install splash shield.
21. Install splash shield push pins.
22. Install right front wheel and tire assembly.

Tighten
Wheel Nuts: 125 N.m (92 lb ft)





23. Lower vehicle.
24. Install air cleaner assembly.
25. Connect negative battery c able.

Tighten
Battery Terminal Bolt: 17 N.m (13 lb ft)
