Timing Belt Cover Replacement - Rear
REAR TIMING BELT COVER REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
- J42069 Timing Belt Alignment Kit
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
IMPORTANT: Rotate crankshaft to 60 degrees BTDC position to prevent valve/piston contact.
3. Remove timing belt.
IMPORTANT: Camshaft sprocket bolts are torque to yield and should be replaced when removed.
4. Remove camshaft sprocket using Timing Belt Alignment Kit J42069. Camshaft locks (J42069-1 and J42069-2) can be used to lock sprockets when initially loosening camshaft sprocket bolts.
5. Remove timing belt tensioner bracket bolts.
6. Remove timing belt tensioner bracket.
7. Remove timing belt idle pulley bolt for camshaft 3 & 4.
8. Remove timing belt idler pulley for camshaft 3 & 4.
9. Remove rear timing belt cover bolts.
10. Remove rear timing belt threaded pin.
11. Remove rear timing belt cover.
INSTALLATION
1. Install rear timing belt cover.
2. Coat threaded pin with Permatex Threadlocker- Blue P/N 21485277 (or equivalent).
3. Install rear timing belt threaded pin.
Tighten
Rear Timing Belt Cover Threaded Pin: 10 N.m (89 lb in)
4. Install rear timing belt cover bolts.
Tighten
Rear Timing Belt Cover Bolt: 8 N.m (71 lb in)
5. Install timing belt tensioner bracket.
6. Install timing belt tensioner bracket bolts.
Tighten
Timing Belt Tensioner Bracket Bolt: 40 N.m (30 lb ft)
NOTICE: Camshaft sprocket bolts are torque to yield and must be replaced when removed.
7. Install camshaft sprockets and new bolts.
8. Align camshaft sprocket with pin on camshaft.
^ Align correct camshaft with corresponding number on sprocket.
^ Camshaft sprockets 1 and 2 are interchangeable and camshaft sprockets 1 and 4 are interchangeable.
Tighten
Camshaft Sprocket Bolt: 51 N.m (37 lb ft) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees
9. Install timing belt.
10. Connect negative battery cable.
Tighten
Battery Terminal Bolt: 17 N.m (13 lb ft)
11. Install air cleaner assembly.
