Spark Plug: Service and Repair
SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
- J45482 Debris Screen
REMOVAL
1. Remove intake manifold assembly.
2. Install Debris Screen J45482
3. Disconnect each EI module harness connector.
IMPORTANT: To avoid getting water and debris into the spark plug holes, use compressed air and shop rag to blow off the ignition module before the assembly is removed.
NOTICE: Bolts can be screwed into the ignition module to aid when removing the module from the cylinder head.
4. Remove ignition module attachment bolts.
5. Remove ignition module housing assembly with spark plug boots from spark plugs.
6. Remove ignition module assembly gasket if it does not come out with module.
7. Remove spark plugs.
INSTALLATION
NOTICE: Spark plugs are pre-gapped, if spark plug is dropped it should be replaced.
1. Install spark plugs.
Torque:
Spark Plugs: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
2. Install a new gasket to the ignition module.
3. Apply dielectric compound to spark plug boots and make sure no corrosion is present.
4. Install ignition module housing assembly with spark plug boots into position.
Torque:
Ignition Module Bolts: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
5. Connect El module harness connector. Push in connector until locking position is felt and pull back to confirm a positive engagement.
6. Remove Debris Screen J45482.
7. Install intake manifold assembly.
