Electronic Brake Control Module: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ELECTRONIC BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (CONTROL MODULE AND VALVE ASSEMBLY) (EBTCM)

REMOVAL
1. Ignition Off.
2. Remove battery cover.
3. Disconnect negative battery cable.





4. Lift and disengage TCM and bracket from left strut tower, if equipped.

NOTICE: Plug open brake pipes to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

NOTICE: Use care when pulling or bending brake pipes away from ABS control assembly.

5. Disconnect brake pipe nuts from valve assembly.





6. Disconnect control module electrical connector.





7. Loosen ABS control assembly to bracket bolts.





8. Remove ABS control assembly from vehicle.

DISASSEMBLY
1. Disconnect pump motor electrical connector.





2. Remove control module to valve assembly screws.

ASSEMBLY
1. Position control module on valve assembly.
2. Install attaching screws.





3. Connect pump motor electrical connector.

INSTALLATION





1. Position ABS control assembly into bracket and tighten nuts.
Torque:
ABS Control Assembly-to-Bracket Nuts: 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)





2. Connect control module electrical connector.





3. Position brake pipes into valve assembly and tighten brake pipe nuts.
Torque:
Brake Pipes-to-Master Cylinder: 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)





4. Install TCM and bracket assembly, if equipped.
5. Connect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)

6. Install battery cover.
Torque:
Battery Cover Screws: 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.)

7. Fill brake fluid reservoir to "MAX" mark on reservoir with clean brake fluid.

IMPORTANT: A Scan tool is NOT required to bleed this brake system.

8. Bleed brakes.
9. Reprogram radio presets.
10. Perform throttle body relearn procedure.
