Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Description and Operation
CRUISE BRAKE SWITCHCruise Brake Switch:
The cruise brake switch is located under the driver side I/P touching the brake pedal arm. The cruise brake switch is located above the stop lamp switch on the brake switch support bracket. The cruise brake switch is used as a secondary input to the ECM to determine when the brake pedal is being applied and is needed to disable cruise control. The cruise brake switch is normally open with the switch removed from the vehicle (brake pedal depressed). Ignition voltage is supplied to the ECM through the cruise/brake switch whenever the brake pedal is released. When the pedal is depressed, the ECM input goes low and cruise control will be disabled if it is enabled. The input is also used for transmission torque converter clutch operation.
