A/C - Evaporator Temperature Sensor Manual Update

File in Section: 01 - HVAC

Bulletin No.: 03-01-38-014

Issue Date: September, 2003

Subject:
Service Manual Update for A/C Evaporator Temperature Sensor Performance - Chart 11

Models Affected:
2002-2003 Saturn VUE Vehicles with Manual HVAC Systems (RPO C60)

Attention: Fixed Operations Manager and Technician

Purpose:

Important:
This bulletin applies to the paper Service Manual only.

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide technicians with voltage-to-temperature conversion information to diagnose the evaporator function status. This information will aid in the diagnosis of the "A/C Evaporator Temperature Sensor Performance - Chart 11" on pages 67 and 68 of the 2002-2003 Saturn VUE HVAC Service Manual, Vol. 1.

The chart provides the technician with information that will convert the current Service Manual temperature sensor voltage readings per the scan tool A/C sensor reading in the BCM to a comparable temperature value to assist with diagnosis of the "A/C Does Not Engage" symptom.

Important:
This chart shows voltage and associated temperatures for the "A/C Does Not Engage" symptom that is experienced on the vehicle. If the A/C is not engaged, these low temperature readings should not be present and may indicate that the sensor is inaccurate and needs to be replaced. If the temperature/voltage readings are at ambient temperature, the sensor is functioning correctly and is not a reason for the "A/C Does Not Engage" condition. If an open or ground condition is found when testing the sensor, sensor should be replaced. Refer to "A/C Refrigerant Temperature Sensor Removal and Installation" procedures in the 2002-2003 Saturn VUE HVAC Service Manual, Vol. 1.
