Transmission Fluid Leak from Right Hand Axle Seal Area (Replace Right Hand Axle Seal with New Design Double Dust Lip Seal)
Models:
2002-2005 Saturn VUE 2WD Vehicles with VT25E Transaxle (RPO M75)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a transmission fluid leak from the right hand axle seal area.
Cause
This condition may be caused by debris and/or contaminants.
Correction
Replace the right hand axle seal with a new design double dust lip seal. The new design part is white colored.
Note:
The new design right hand axle seal (white colored), can only be used on the 2WD Saturn VUE right-hand axle. If this seal is used in any other applications such as the VUE 2WD left side axle, VUE AWD, or ION, a potential sealing concern or leak may result.
Important:
Before replacing the axle seal, perform the following steps:
1. Visually inspect the shaft (at the seal location) for sand and grit.
2. If sand or grit is found, thoroughly flush the area to remove all the sand and grit.
3. Clean the shaft using a clean, lint-free cloth and degreasing fluid (i.e., brake/choke cleaner-GM P/N 12378392 [in Canada, use 88901247], 3M P/N 08880, or equivalent).
4. Once cleaned, visually inspect the shaft for any dents, scratches, or corrosion at the seal location.
5. If any dents, scratches or corrosion is found, the shaft should be replaced.
Replace the right hand axle seal with a new design double dust lip seal, P/N 24235475.
