Body - L/H Door Mirror Glass Cracking

Bulletin No.: 04-08-64-008

Date: April 28, 2004

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Left Side (Driver's Side) Outside Rearview Mirror Cracking (Replace Outside Rearview Mirror Glass Assembly)

Models:
2003-2004 VUE Vehicles

Attention:
Technician

Built Prior to the VIN Breakpoints shown.

Condition

The left side (driver's side) outside rearview mirror may crack when adjusting the mirror or closing the door.

Cause

The mirror glass may crack due to ice build up at the bottom of the mirror. The ice build up may cause the mirror back plate to become bonded to the mirror housing. If the mirror back plate is frozen to the mirror housing, adjusting the mirror or closing the door may cause the mirror glass to crack. Vehicles built with the first design back plate have one drain hole at the bottom of the mirror back plate. Vehicles built with the second design back plate have two additional drain holes for a total of three drain holes, which provides improved mirror housing drainage. Only the left side (driver's side) mirror is affected due to "dampener wires" being used to stabilize the mirror. The dampener wires may interfere with water "drainage".

Correction

Replace left side (driver's side) outside rearview mirror glass assembly.
