3. Front Internal Gear / Low and Reverse Clutch Installation

FRONT INTERNAL GEAR / LOW AND REVERSE CLUTCH INSTALLATION

^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 28585 Snap Ring Remover





IMPORTANT: The front planetary internal gear should turn freely counterclockwise and should lock clockwise.

1. Install race (530) onto output gear.
2. Install bearing.
3. Install front internal gear and low clutch sprag assembly.





IMPORTANT: Make sure you have the correct number of plates and they are in the correct order.

4. Install low and reverse clutch backing plate (515).
5. Install steel plates (517) and fiber plates (516).
6. Install low and reverse clutch backing plate (515).





IMPORTANT: Make sure the end gap of retaining ring is not aligned with one of the cutouts. The retaining ring open-end should point into case as shown.

7. Using Snap Ring Remover J28585, install the low and reverse clutch backing plate retaining ring (518).





IMPORTANT: Make sure the thrust bearing is installed in the correct direction.

8. Install front internal gear thrust bearing (529) - black side up.
