Installation
ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD)/FRONT WHEEL DRIVE (FWD) FRONT DRIVE AXLE - LEFT SIDE (INSTALLATION)^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J44015 Tie Rod Installer
INSTALLATION
1. Install new axle shaft retaining ring.
NOTICE: Lubricate axle with transmission fluid. Use care when inserting axle into transmission not to damage the seal.
NOTICE: Ensure axle is fully seated.
2. Install axle seal protector to seal. Remove protector after axle splines pass the seal.
NOTICE: Use care not to damage boots or seals.
3. Insert outer end of axle into knuckle.
4. Install lower control arm ball stud to knuckle.
5. Tighten nut one additional flat to align cotter pin hole. Secure cotter pin.
Torque:
Lower Control Arm Ball Stud-to-Knuckle Nut: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) + 150°
NOTICE: Do not allow stud to rotate, secure link stud with wrench to install mat.
6. Install new right side lower stabilizer bar link nut and tighten.
Torque:
Right Side Lower Stabilizer Bar Link Nut: 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.)
7. Insert tie rod to knuckle and install Tie Rod Installer J44015.
Torque:
Tie Rod-to-Knuckle Tool: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
NOTICE: Do not allow stud to rotate while tightening nut. Damage may occur to seal.
8. Remove J44015 and install new tie rod to knuckle nut.
Torque:
Rod-to-Knuckle Nut: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
9. Install wheel and tire.
10. Install wheel nuts and tighten in a criss-cross pattern.
Torque:
Wheel Nuts: 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)
l1. Install new front axle to knuckle nut and tighten.
Torque:
Front Axle-to-Knuckle Nut: 205 Nm (151 ft. lbs.)
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Check alignment and align as necessary.
14. Check transmission oil level and fill as required.
