Mounting Bushing Replacement

REAR DRIVE MODULE (RDM) - MOUNTING BUSHING REPLACEMENT (IN-VEHICLE)

^ TOOLS REQUIRED - J45221 RDM - Bushing Remover & Installer

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE OPPOSITE FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.





1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Disconnect intermediate exhaust pipe from down pipe.





3. Remove exhaust muffler and resonator.

NOTICE: Hold stud secure with Torx bit while removing nut. Damage may occur if stud rotates.





4. Remove stabilizer link to stabilizer bar nut.





5. Remove stabilizer bar to support attachment bolts.
6. Remove bar from links and remove bar.





7. Remove rear drive module bracket to support bolt. Discard nut.
8. Remove rear drive module bracket to rear drive module bolts. Discard nuts.
9. Remove rear module bracket.





10. Install RDM - Bushing Remover & Installer J45221 and remove bushing.
11. Position large part of tool over bushing flange and against frame. Install bolt and washer.
12. Install small part of tool against bushing. Install bearing, washer, and nut.

NOTICE: Use high pressure lube on threads of J45221.

IMPORTANT: Ensure small end of tool is aligned with bushing.

13. Tighten J45221 tool nut until bushing is removed.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT: Install bushing with slots in rubber portion at the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock position. Ensure bushing is fully seated.





1. Using RDM-Bushing Remover on Installer J45221, install new bushing.
2. Place the large part of tool against frame. Install bolt with washer.
3. Position bushing to frame, then small part of the tool against bushing flange area.
4. Install bearing, washer, and nut.
5. Tighten J45221 tool nut until bushing is fully seated.
6. Position rear bracket to rear drive module. Install bolts and new nuts, then tighten bolts.
Torque:
Bracket-to-Rear Drive Module Bolts: 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.)





7. Install rear bracket to support bolt and new nut. Tighten bolt.
Torque:
Rear Bracket-to-support Bolt: 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Ensure rubber mounts are in proper position. Flat side against support.

8. Position stabilizer bar to vehicle and install links to stabilizer bar.





9. Install mounting bolts and tighten.
Torque:
Stabilizer Bar Mounting Bolts: 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Hold stud secure with Torx bit while tightening nut. Damage may occur if stud rotates.





10. Install stabilizer link to stabilizer bar nut and tighten.
Torque:
Stabilizer Link-to-Stabilizer Bar Nut: 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.)





11. Install exhaust muffler and resonator.





12. Connect intermediate pipe to downpipe. Install new gasket. Tighten nuts.
Torque:
Exhaust Flange Nuts: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
13. Lower vehicle.
