45. 4TH , 5TH Clutch Selective Backing Plate Clearance Inspection

4th , 5th Clutch Selective Backing Plate Clearance Inspection

- Tools Required
- DT 46666 Compressor

1. Set a dial indicator (1) as shown, on the clutch backing plate (609) or (625).
2. Zero the dial indicator on the clutch backing plate (609) or (625) after lifting up the corresponding backing plate to contact the clutch backing plate retaining ring (608) or (624).
3. Release the clutch backing plate to "relax the clutch pack stack up", then place DT 46666 on the clutch backing plate (609) or (625)

4. Using 39 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) of force, press DT 46666 down and read the dial indicator (1). The dial indicator reading is the clearance (a) between the clutch backing plate and top fiber plate. Measure at least 3 places, and use the average of the 3 measurements as the actual clearance.
5. If the clutch backing plate clearance is out of specification, replace the clutch steel and fiber plates as a set and recheck for proper clearance.
Specification
- 4th clutch: 0.55-0.75 mm (0.022-0,030 inch)
- 5th clutch: 0.55-0.75 mm (0.022-0.030 inch)
6. If the clearance is still out of specification, select a NEW clutch backing plate (609) or (625) from the specification tables. Install the NEW clutch backing plate and recheck for proper clearance.
