47. Output Shaft Disassemble

Output Shaft Disassemble

- Tools Required
- DT 46509 Tube Style Driver 40 mm I.D.

Notice: Ensure that all the metal particles are collected in order to prevent internal damage to the transaxle or bearings.

1. Using a sharp chisel (1) and taking care not to damage the threads of the output shaft (524), remove the locktab (2) from the output shaft retainer locknut (516).

2. While securely holding the output shaft assembly (535) with an adjustable wrench in a bench vise, remove the output shaft retaining nut (516), and then the output shaft splined washer (515).

Note: The output shaft retaining nut (516) is a left-hand thread design,

3. Place the output shaft reverse driven gear (512) on a hydraulic press base as shown (2), and place a shaft protector (1) between the output shaft (524) and the press head in order to prevent damaging the threads on the output shaft.

Notice: Support the component while using the press. Failure to support the component may allow the component to drop, causing damage.

4. Press the output shaft assembly out of the fitted rear case bearing (514). Support the output shaft assembly while pressing it out of the fitted rear case bearing.

5. Remove the reverse driven gear (512) from the output shaft (524).
6. Remove the reverse driven gear inner bearing (511) from the output shaft (524).
7. Remove the reverse driven gear inner race (510) from the output shaft (524).
8. Remove the 5th and reverse synchronizer hub (509) from the output shaft (524).
9. Remove the 5th and reverse synchronizer ring (508) from the output shaft (524).
10. Remove the 5th driven gear (507) from the output shaft (524).
11. Remove the 5th driven gear inner bearing (506) from the output shaft (524).
12. Remove the 5th driven gear spacer (505) from the output shaft (524).
13. Remove the 3rd and 4th driven gear split retaining ring cap retainer (504) from the output shaft (524).
14. Remove the 3rd and 4th driven gear split retaining ring cap (503) from the output shaft (524).
15. Remove the 3rd and 4th driven gear split retaining rings (502) from the output shaft (524).

16. Remove the 3rd and 4th driven gear selective spacer (501) from the output shaft (524).
17. Remove the 3rd and 4th driven gear (500) from the output shaft (524).
18. Remove the 1st driven gear (517) from the output shaft (524).
19. Remove the 1st driven gear selective spacer (518) from the output shaft (524).
20. Remove the 1st and 2nd idler gear thrust bearing (519) from the output shaft (524).
21. Remove the 1st and 2nd idler gear (520) from the output shaft (524).
22. Remove the 1st and 2nd idler gear inner bearing (521) from the output shaft (524).
23. Remove the 2nd driven gear thrust bearing (522) from the output shaft (524).
24. Remove the 2nd driven gear (523) from the output shaft (524).
25. Inspect all bearings for wear or damage. Replace bearings as needed.
26. Inspect the output shaft (524) bearing surfaces and shaft splines for scoring, excessive wear or damage. Replace the output shaft if needed.
27. Inspect the 1st and 2nd idler gear (520) axial clearance and the 3rd and 4th gear (500) axial clearance.
