Subject:
Reprogram Radio Using Tech 2 After Radio Replacement
(RPOS USB, US9 or UUB)
Models Affected:
2004 ION and VUE Vehicles with Radio RPOs US8, US9, or UU8
Attention: Technician
Purpose:
Important:
The U1C (AM/FM Single CD) and UM7 (AM/FM) radios do not need to be programmed upon replacement, aside from resetting time and radio station presets.
The purpose of this bulletin is to communicate the need to reprogram certain radios after radio replacement. Beginning with model year 2004, the new U58 (AM/FM Single CD/MP3), U59 (AM/FM 6 Disc CD/MP3), and UU8 (AM/FM CD/DVD/MP3/RSE) radios for the Saturn ION and VUE vehicles will need to be reprogrammed using the Tech 2 if they are replaced during service or if swapped from one vehicle to another. These radios have unique internal equalization settings to optimize sound quality in each particular model, therefore the radio must be programmed for the ION coupe (with or without amplifier), the ION sedan (with or without amplifier), or the VUE (with or without amplifier). If the radio is taken from one vehicle and placed in a dissimilar vehicle, audio quality will be adversely affected. If the radio is not programmed at all, the display will read "Calibrate." Refer to the "Entertainment" section of the appropriate Service Manual for more detailed instructions on performing the radio setup procedure.
