Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle or buzz-type noise while driving vehicle at engine speeds between 1,800 and 2,200 RPM. This condition may only be evident with the engine under load.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a cold weld inside the front exhaust resonator (mid-muffler) assembly.
Correction
Verify that the exhaust resonator (mid-muffler) is the source of the noise by duplicating the noise at engine speeds between 1,800 and 2,200 RPM under load.
^ If the noise is NOT determined to be coming from the exhaust resonator (mid-muffler), refer to "Diagnostic Information and Procedures - Exhaust Noise" in the Engine Exhaust section of the 2004 Saturn VUE Service Manual, Vol. 1 to diagnose exhaust system noise.
^ If noise is coming from exhaust resonator (mid-muffler), replace exhaust resonator (mid-muffler). Refer to "Mid-Muffler Replacement" in the Engine Exhaust section of the 2004 Saturn VUE Service Manual, Vol. 1.
