Cylinder Head Replacement - Right Side

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the Powertrain. Refer to Engine Replacement (LCS) (Engine Replacement)Engine Replacement (LY7) (Engine Replacement).
2. Remove the right bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Right Side (Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Right).
3. If equipped with LCS, remove the right side fuel injector




4. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal - Right Side (Overhaul).
5. Remove the Right side Catalytic Converter. refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LZ4) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LY7) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LCS) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side)




6. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
7. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul) and Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul).
8. If necessary, perform the following steps:

* Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal - Right Side (Overhaul).
* Remove the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Removal - Right Side (Overhaul).
* Disassemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble (LY7) (Overhaul)Cylinder Head Disassemble (LLT or LCS) (Overhaul).

Installation Procedure

1. If necessary, perform the following steps:

* Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble (LY7) (Overhaul)Cylinder Head Assemble (LLT or LCS) (Overhaul).
* Install the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Installation - Right Side (Overhaul).
* Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation - Right Side (Overhaul).




2. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket.




3. Carefully install the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold to the engine. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation - Right Side (Overhaul).
4. Install the right bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Right Side (Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Right).
5. Install the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement (LCS) (Engine Replacement)Engine Replacement (LY7) (Engine Replacement).
