DTC P061A or P061B

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC P061A
- Control Module Torque Performance

Circuit/System Description

This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity conditions within the hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM). The HPCM monitors the regenerative braking ring input to verify that the indicated axle torque calculation is correct. The HPCM also communicates the axle torque calculation data via the control area network (CAN) circuit to the engine control module (ECM). The axle torque information is monitored by the ECM to ensure the requested engine torque is delivered to the drive wheels.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The engine is operating.
* The ECM has received a CAN message from the HPCM.
* The engine speed is greater 1,199 RPM.
* DTC P061A runs continuously once the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects that the axle torque CAN message from the HPCM is corrupted or unavailable for greater than 6 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P061A is a Type A DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P061A is a Type A DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Engine operating, increase the engine speed to 1,300 RPM for at least 10 seconds. Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P061A should not set.

Note:
* If any UXXXX DTCs are set, diagnose those first.
* The scan tool Engine Speed Control function may cause this DTC to set.

If DTC P061A failed this ignition, refer to Diagnostic Starting Point - Hybrid Controls (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview).

2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
