Circuit/System Description

The drive motor generator battery control module will diagnose its own systems and determine when a fault condition is present. Diagnostics and system status is communicated from the drive motor generator battery control module to the drive motor generator control module through serial data. The drive motor generator control module is the host controller for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information.

The drive motor generator battery control module measures the internal hybrid battery resistance across the high voltage (HV) battery string and in pairs. If the internal resistance values are out of range at a given battery temperature, this DTC will set. Higher internal resistance will also increase battery temperature.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is ON.
* The 12 V battery voltage is 9-18 V.
* Hybrid battery temperature is greater than -7°C (19°F).
* Hybrid battery state of charge (SOC) less than 90%

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The drive motor generator battery control module has determined using internal resistance values, battery temperature the hybrid battery pack has reached its end of life.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTC P0A80 is a type B DTC.
* The driver information center displays the SERVICE HYBRID SYSTEM message.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0A80 is a type B DTC.
