- Driver Intended Braking Torque Signal Message Counter Incorrect

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) communicates the input of the drivers intended braking torque via the control area network (CAN) circuit to the engine control module (ECM). This information allows the ECM to make adjustments to various engine control functions when the driver applies the brake.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is ON, or the engine is operating.
* The ECM has received a CAN message from the EBCM.
* DTC P1B12 runs continuously once the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects that the braking torque CAN message from the EBCM is corrupted or unavailable.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P1B12 is a Type A DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P1B12 is a Type A DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Start and idle the engine, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P1B12 should not set.

Note: If any UXXXX DTCs are set, diagnose those first.

If DTC P1B12 failed this ignition, refer to Diagnostic Starting Point - Antilock Brake System (Diagnostic Starting Point - Antilock Brake System).

2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
