Cylinder Head Replacement - Left Side

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the left bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Left Side (Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Left).
2. If equipped with LCS, remove the left side fuel Injector. Refer to Fuel Injector Replacement (Service and Repair)
3. Remove the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the catalytic converter.Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LY7 ) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LCS) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)




6. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal - Left Side (LY7) (Overhaul)Cylinder Head Removal - Left Side (LCS) (Overhaul).




7. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
8. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul) and Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul).
9. If necessary, perform the following steps:

* Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal - Left Side (Overhaul).
* Remove the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Removal - Left Side (LY7/LP1) (Overhaul)Camshaft Removal - Left Side (LCS) (Overhaul).
* Disassemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble (LY7) (Overhaul)Cylinder Head Disassemble (LLT or LCS) (Overhaul).
* Transfer High Pressure fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Pump Replacement (Service and Repair)

Installation Procedure

1. If necessary, perform the following steps:

* Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble (LY7) (Overhaul)Cylinder Head Assemble (LLT or LCS) (Overhaul).
* Install the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Installation - Left Side (LY7) (Overhaul)Camshaft Installation - Left Side (LCS) (Overhaul).
* Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side (Overhaul).




2. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket.




3. Carefully install the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold to the engine. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation - Left Side (LY7) (Overhaul)Cylinder Head Installation - Left Side (LCS) (Overhaul).
4. Install the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
5. Connect the wiring harness electrical connector located at the side of the cylinder head.
6. Install the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
7. Install the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the left bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Left Side (Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Left).
