Condition

Some customers may comment that the driver's power seat adjuster is inoperative. Technicians may find that the PWR SEAT 20 AMP fuse located in the instrument panel (IP) fuse block is open.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the power seat wiring harness chafing on the seat frame edge (1) near the seat switch.

Correction

Technicians are to repair the driver's power seat adjuster wiring harness using the following procedure:

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.

2. Move the driver's seat to the forward and upward position. If the seat will not move due to an open fuse, reposition the power seat harness and replace the seat fuse.

3. Remove the driver's seat assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in SI.

4. Repair the seat wiring harness as necessary. Refer to the Wiring Repairs section in SI for more information.

5. Install conduit shielding and electrical tape (1) around the power seat wiring harness, then reposition the power seat harness away from the metal seat frame edge.

6. Install the driver's seat assembly back into the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in SI.

Note
As an interim change in the 2009 Model Year, this power seat circuit has been upgraded to a 30 Amp circuit. To avoid a "nuisance" fuse opening event, a 30 Amp J‐Case fuse, may be used in service to replace the OE 20 Amp J‐Case fuse.

7. Replace the existing fuse with a 30 Amp J‐Case fuse. Test the operation of the power seat adjuster.

8. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
