SUBJECT:
Headlamps Open When Horn is Activated (Replace Existing Headlamp Control Module with New Part) 1991 Saturn Coupes


CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that the headlamp doors open when the headlamp switch is in the "P" (park) position or "OPEN" position (after being moved from the "OFF" position) and the horn is activated.


CAUSE:
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) condition in headlamp control module assembly, Part Number 21020316, causes it to open headlamps, depending on position of headlamp switch, when horn is activated.


CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Replace existing headlamp control module assembly with new headlamp control module assembly, Part Number 21021358, according to the following procedures:


PROCEDURE:

1. Disconnect battery negative cable.





2. Remove bolts from air cleaner assembly and remove air cleaner assembly from vehicle.



3. Disconnect electrical connectors from headlamp control module.

4. Remove bolts from headlamp control module and remove from vehicle.

5. Position new headlamp control module to vehicle and secure with bolts.

6. Connect electrical connectors to headlamp control module.

7. Install air cleaner assembly.

8. Connect negative battery cable.
