DESCRIPTION


The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solenoid is connected to voltage through the ignition switch and to a ground through a QDM output. The QDM output is pulled low in order to turn on the solenoid and turn off the EGR valve. The EGR solenoid defaults to the open position to prevent the cylinder from becoming to hot in the event of a EGR system failure. The PCM checks the EGR system by grounding CKT 435 (no EGR) and monitoring the change in the integrator.

CODE PARAMETERS

Code 32 will set if:


^ MAP is 0.25 V to 2.6 V.


^ TPS is between 5 and 70 percent.


^ Throttle is constant.


^ Vehicle speed is greater than 25 KPH (15 MPH).


^ Engine has been running more than one minute.


^ Integrator doesn't change when the EGR test is performed.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

IMPORTANT: If Code 26 is set in combination with Code 32, diagnose Code 26 first. Then clear codes and test drive the vehicle to see if Code 32 reset. If it does reset, continue with the Code 32 trouble tree. If it does not reset, is can be assumed that code 32 was set because of faulty Quad driver circuitry.


^ When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem use the Scan Tool to review supplemental diagnostic information. The supplemental data can be used to duplicate a problem. Select MALF History from Scan Tool EC menu.

^ Check the tightness of the female terminal grip with a spare male terminal.


^ EGR passages (cylinder head and intake manifold) restricted or blocked could also cause a Code 32.


^ EGR is ported vacuum. In a event the EGR solenoid fails you will still get EGR.
