SUBJECT: Rear Window Panel Front Finish Lace Not Installed or Does Not Stay In
Place (Install Service Part and/or Apply Adhesive)

AFFECTED: Some 1991 and 1992 Saturns





CONDITION: Some owners of 1991-92 Saturns may state that the front bottom metal edge of the package tray is showing or the finish lace will not stay in place.


CAUSE: On early 1991 model Saturns, the front bottom metal edge of the rear package tray did not have a finish lace installed. On vehicles equipped with the lace from the factory, the U-shaped lace may not stay attached to the metal edge of the package tray, since the lace was not secured with an adhesive.

NOTE: On 1992 vehicles equipped with the new rear window trim finish panel, which can be identified by two push-pins on the front surface of the panel, the rear window panel front finish lace is not required.


CORRECTIVE
ACTION: To secure the lace to the front bottom metal edge or the package tray, it will be necessary to apply an adhesive that secures the lace to the metal edge. Follow the procedures in this bulletin for vehicles built with or without the rear window panel front finish lace.

NOTE: The rear window panel front finish lace is now available as a service part (P/N 21038016).


PROCEDURE:

1. Position the backs of the rear seats in the down position.

2. Remove loose lace. If the vehicle was not equipped with lace, obtain the lace (P/N 21038016) from the parts department.

NOTE: If the vehicle being worked on is a Sedan, no alteration to the lace is required. However, if the vehicle is a Coupe, trim the length of the lace to 756 mm (29.75 inches).

3. Apply a bead of 3M(R) Plastic and Emblem Adhesive (P/N 051135-08061, or equivalent) to the entire, inside length of the lace.

NOTE: Only a small amount of adhesive is required to secure the lace.

4. Install the rubber lace before the adhesive dries.

NOTE: It will be necessary to pull back and upwards on the front of the rear window finish trim panel to gain access to the bottom metal edge of the package tray. Be careful not to bend, or get adhesive on this trim panel.
