NO.: 91-I-08

DATE: April, 1991

SUBJECT:
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Programmer Tool (SA9253A) Inoperative

TO: Saturn Fixed Operations Managers

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) programmer tool (SA9253A) was wired incorrectly at the manufacturer's factory and will cause an intermittent ground condition when programming the PCM off-board. Until the unit has been replaced by OTC Division, SPX Corporation, all PCM's must be programmed on-board the vehicle by way of the assembly line diagnostic link (ALDL), using the Saturn Service Stall System. If a PCM has to be programmed for repair of a vehicle not at the Retailer, contact Saturn Technical Assistance for directions.

To expedite the repair operation, OTC will ship a self-addressed, prepaid carton to the Retailer for the return of the programmer. The Retailer is responsible for immediately packaging the programmer in the carton for UPS pick-up. UPS will pick-up the carton at no charge within three days. OTC will correct the wiring and return the programmer prepaid within seven days.

If you have any questions on the handling of the PCM programmer tool return, contact OTC Technical Services on (507) 451-5860 or FAX (800) 955-8329. Saturn Technical Assistance can be contacted on (800) 828-2112.
