1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Move heater hose clamps upward.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. On DOHC models, remove air cleaner housing cover and air induction at intake manifold.
6. On SOHC models, remove air cleaner housing.
7. On all models, remove heater hoses at core, then blow coolant from heater core with suitable air hose.
8. Disconnect left and right center instrument panel trim panel Velcro tabs, then pull outward to unclip.
9. Remove lower heater duct attaching screws, then drop straight down and slide out sideways, Fig. 6. Do not damage heater dust to rear floor heater duct seal.
10. Release temperature cable hold down clip from lower heater core cover by lifting upward on plastic tab while down on top of cable, Fig. 7.
11. Depress temperature valve pin, then pull temperature cable straight out.
12. Remove heater core cover attaching screws, then remove.
13. Remove lower heater core cover.
14. Remove heater core pipe clamp attaching screw.
15. Disconnect heater core electrical connector, then remove lower heater core retainer attaching screws.
16. Remove heater core.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
