Vehicle Surges or Pulsates with Retailer Installed Cruise Control Turned-On (Replace 1991 Model Year Cruise Control Module with 1992 Model Year Module)
MODELS
AFFECTED:
All 1992 Saturns with Retailer installed cruise control
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that the vehicle surges or pulsates with the cruise control at, or around 55 mph (88 km/h). This happens on vehicles that have an incorrect cruise control module installed.
CAUSE:
A 1991 model year, Retailer installed cruise control kit was incorrectly installed on a 1992 vehicle.
CORRECTIVE
ACTION:
Obtain the cruise control module part number from the module installed in the vehicle. Compare this number against the part numbers listed under "Parts Requirements" in this bulletin.
^ If the module is incorrect for the vehicle application, replace with the correct module. Refer to "Parts Requirements" in this bulletin for the correct part number of the replacement module.
^ If the module is the correct module for the vehicle, refer to "Cruise Control Diagnostics" in the "Electronic Engine Controls Service Manual."
NOTE:
1991 cruise control modules cannot be used on 1992 vehicles. However, cruise control modules designated in the Parts Manual for 1992 vehicles, can be used on either 1991 or 1992 vehicles.

INFORMATION:
Repairs required due to installation of an incorrect cruise control kit is the responsibility of the installing retailer. However, in the interest of customer satisfaction, if the customer takes the vehicle to a retail facility other than where the cruise control was installed, the repairing retail facility will be reimbursed for the repairs. A claim should be submitted through the Saturn Dealer System as follows:
