A/T - Harsh Engagement into Reverse

9215saturn01

NO.: 91-T-48

DATE: December, 1991

GROUP: Transaxle

CORP. NO.: 187111

SUBJECT: Harsh Engagement into Reverse (New PCM Calibration)

MODELS
AFFECTED: 1992 SL2 Sedans and SC Coupes equipped with MP7 automatic transaxles and vehicle identification number (VIN) NZ113023 and below.

CONDITION: A harsh engagement is experienced immediately after shifting into reverse (R).

CAUSE: The harsh engagement into reverse may be caused by a PCM calibration error. This condition has been corrected on vehicles built after VIN NZ113023.

Normally the Saturn automatic transaxle will have a 1-3 second delay before engaging into reverse. If a customer comments on a harsh shift into reverse, with a quick clutch engagement (usually less than one second), then a new calibration may need to be downloaded into the PCM.

CORRECTIVE
ACTION: If a harsh/quick engagement is verified, download # 2548 PROD TC CALIBRATION using Saturn Service Stall System and the "How To Use SSS EEPROM Reprogramming" procedures in the "SSS User Guide."
