Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve Replacement
CAUTION: The IAC valve is an electrical component, and must not be soaked in any liquid solvent; otherwise damage may result.Throttle Body Exploded View.:
IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) VALVE REMOVAL
1. If required, remove the attachment screws and IAC valve,
2. Remove the IAC valve O-ring and discard.
3. Clean the IAC valve seating surfaces on throttle body to assure proper sealing of the new O-ring and contact of IAC valve flange.
NOTE: Usual wear of the IAC pintle is characterized by a ring around the cone and is not an indication of a bad IAC valve.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate the new O-ring with clean engine oil and install on IAC valve.
NOTE: If replacement is necessary, use only an IAC valve with the appropriate pintle shape and diameter. Dimension A must not be adjusted by pushing or pulling on the pintle. Use IAC tester SA9195 (or equivalent) for adjusting pintle extension.
Idle Air Control Valve.:
NOTE: Before installing a new IAC valve, measure the distance between the tip of the valve pintle and the flange mounting surface. If dimension A is greater than 28 mm (1.125 in), it must be retracted to prevent damage to the valve. A separate driver box SA9195E (or equivalent) is used to retract the IAC pintle.
2. Insert IAC valve in throttle body.
3. Apply SATURN P/N 21485277 (Loctite 242 Threadlocker or equivalent) to the screw threads. Install IAC valve attaching screws.
^ Torque: 3.2 Nm (28 in. Lbs.)
NOTE: No physical adjustment of the IAC valve assembly is required after installation. Proper positioning can be assured by removing the PCM fuse temporarily or disconnecting the negative battery cable. This provides a reference position for the PCM to reset the IAC valve setting.
