Vehicle - Disposition of Replaced Components

NO.: 93-I-04

DATE: July 1993

SUBJECT:
Disposition of Replaced Components

TO: All Saturn General Managers, Fixed Operations Managers and Parts Managers

The purpose of this Bulletin is to remind Saturn Retail personnel of Saturn's policy regarding the disposition of components replaced at Saturn's expense (warranty, policy, campaign or special policy repairs).

All requirements noted in the Saturn Service Policies and Procedures Manual, Section 1.7.4, Disposition of Defective Material, must be adhered to. Retailers are reminded to protect Saturn Corporation and the Retail network from potential liability and risk by being sure to properly dispose of replaced parts as follows:

^ Parts not requested for return to Saturn or a designated representative of Saturn (e.g. remanufacturing center, parts warehouse or transportation carrier) are to be damaged beyond further use and scrapped by the Retailer.

^ Replaced parts and cores which are rebuildable or can be remanufactured (e.g. water pumps, electric motors, etc.) are not to be sold by the Retailer to rebuilders or remanufacturers without prior written consent from Saturn.

Saturn relies upon the Retail network to properly dispose of these parts in a manner that ensures that they are rendered unusable and are removed from the stream of commerce.

If you have any questions regarding this subject, please refer to the Service Policies and Procedures Manual or contact your Saturn Field Representative.
